Job Summary

Matrons are responsible for overseeing the health and safety of students in a boarding school, ensuring they receive appropriate care at all times. This includes providing basic medical attention, managing the sickbay, maintaining a clean and hygienic working environment, preventing infections, and facilitating necessary treatments.

1. Health Support & Medical Care

Provide confidential health advice and emotional support to students.
Be on standby/on-call according to the duty roster to respond promptly to student health needs.
Assess and respond to unwell or injured students, including handling medical emergencies and administering first aid as appropriate.
Accompany students to the nearest hospital or clinic and consult with a certified medical practitioner when necessary.
Oversees students’ health and safety during weekends, if required.

2. Health Records & Communication

Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in the College’s database, including allergies, medication, and medical history.
To manage and document health-related incidents and report them to the Management in a timely manner.
Communicate student welfare concerns to teachers (if necessary), while maintaining confidentiality and following college policy.
Liaise with the Head of Student Services, Principal, Houseparents, and parents/guardians regarding students’ health and any authority-related requirements.

3. Sick Bay & Medication Management

Manage the Sick Bay by keeping it clean, hygienic, comfortable and properly supervised.
Monitor and manage the stock of medical supplies and reorder items within the approved budget.
Ensure the safe storage of all medicines in compliance with statutory requirements and College policies.
Oversee the use of all student medications, including Over-the-Counter (OTC) items or those brought from home, and conduct risk assessments as needed.
Contact parents, if necessary, to confirm medication dosage and storage instructions.

4. Health Promotion & Infection Control

Promote health awareness and hygiene practices among students.
Organise health-related activities, awareness campaigns, and educational talks.
Provide guidance on infection prevention and control measures.
Isolate students with infectious illnesses and report notifiable diseases to the relevant public health authorities.

5. Training, Meetings & College Involvement

Coordinate first aid training for staff and basic healthcare training for boarding staff.
Attend and contribute to college-wide training sessions related to health and safety.
Participate in relevant meetings, workshops, and continuous professional development activities.
Accompany students to external events whenever necessary.

6. To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Management.
